Exhibitions
Here is a list of exhibitions at D2, starting with the current show.
Kate Powel Material Girl
This September, D2 will be exhibiting the playfully thoughtful work of Seattle artist Kate Powell. Material Girl is an ode to the artist’s passion for art history, the human drive toward affirmative self-representation, the inexhaustible psychedelic intrigue of the rectangle, and the irrational and irresistible pull of stuff in a stuff-choked world. Alongside the paintings are presented a selection of the artist’s sketchbooks, offering glimpses into the playful and imaginative drawing practice in which the artist hones her compositional approach and the art-historical research that energizes the paintings.
Vivienne Varay Feint-Hearted
This August, D2 will be exhibiting the jaw-dropping work of Vivienne Varay and her exhibit “Feint-Hearted”. Vivienne is a contemporary art jeweler whose immersive and emotive work examines how materials carry emotional, cultural and personal meaning. “Feint-Hearted” is the culmination of a five year commitment to the creation of this specific body of work, and will be shown as a complete collection for the first time at D2. We are so proud to have the privilege of showing this unique and focused culmination of her artictic vision. It is a landmark exhibit by a singularly compelling voice in the worlds of art and jewelry, and should not be missed.
bergen - American Calligraphy
D2 is excited to present the artwork of bergen for its new exhibit in July. “American Calligraphy” features both older and brand new pieces, showing bergen’s range of artistic talent and his trajectory from being a teenage Graffit Artist on Chicago’s North Shore to an accomplished and innovative artist, creating compelling new work while drawing on his street art roots. bergen is also creating a unique installation in the gallery that is both an homage and an interactive thought experiment. This is truly a must see exhibit by an artist who is both new to the Pacific Northwest and a compelling new voice that needs to be heard.
James Dhillon - Past is Present
D2 is pleased and honored to present the work of James Dhillon for the inaugural exhibit in our new gallery. “Past Is Present” is a collection of paintings from the last few years. In Dhillon’s words, his works are “non-verbal communications, on canvas, that reflect the human experience. To say more than that, to try to explain the non-verbal in words, will only diminish the work.” These expressive paintings needs to be seen to be experienced. “Past is Present” will be up for two months, with new work being cycled in over the course of the exhibition, to start our new gallery.
